I'll never forget the summer of 1967 when I first went on the Pirate of the Caribbean ride. As an 11-year old, I was glued to the TV watching Walt Disney explain this wonderful, coming attraction with models and work-in-progress animatronics. When it finally opened, I found myself waiting several hours in a very long line in blazing heat. You could imagine the relief when we got inside with the cool, evaporative mist of the water.
Contained within this category are some of my favorite effects. I am the most proud of the warning Jolly Roger because, a) it was my favorite part of the ride, b) I met the guy behind the voice of the talking skull (who also wrote the script for the ride), c) it ended up working and looking almost like the original! |
